If there is a question hopeful moms ask their doctors, it is “what type of pregnancy test is capable of detecting pregnancy the earliest?” Even though women find out that they are pregnant four weeks after their last menstruation, this is not soon enough for women who have been trying to become pregnant since they are too excited about the prospect of becoming a mother soon by bringing a baby into the world.
The reason why it takes four weeks to know if a woman is pregnant has to do with her hormones and the beginning stages of pregnancy. Pregnancy test kits detect the low progesterone levels and signs as well as the chemicals that are produced only after a fertilized egg is beginning to appear. After conception occurs, she is not yet considered immediately pregnant. Once the egg is fertilized, it has a long road ahead before it can be officially considered pregnant. Once the egg is fertilized, it heads into the fallopian tubes where it travels to the uterus. Once in the uterus, the egg then has to implant itself into the wall of the uterus. It is not until this time that you are officially considered pregnant because this is when your body starts to produce the pregnancy hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin or hCG. This is the hormone that is being tested by pregnancy test kits.
Home pregnancy tests will not be able to detect pregnancy until your body has produced a specific amount of hCG. While each test is not similar, most do not detect hCG until their levels reach at least 25 mIU/ml. Before a woman gets pregnant, the levels of hCG are less than five. Yours could be anywhere from 0 to 4 if you are not yet pregnant. The level of hCG in your body doubles every 48 to 72 hours. Since every woman is different, some women are able to find out much sooner than others and some women have to wait weeks even after they miss a period before they know whether or not they are bearing a child.
Whatever way it is, most tests cannot detect pregnancy until at least the first day after you have missed your regular period. Even the earliest pregnancy test won’t work for all women so multiple tests should be done to confirm a pregnancy and one should not rely on a single test alone. If you are the kind of woman whose hCG levels take three days to double, then your egg took longer than usual to be implanted, you will conceive later than you thought or you simply do not produce enough hCG as early as other women do; you might not be able to detect pregnancy with even the earliest pregnancy test that exists on the market so it is better to take multiple tests to determine the true result.
There are many different tests that an expectant mother can use to determine if she is pregnant or not and all of these can be read by doing a simple search.
